Why did one of my windows disappear?

Claude Code reports a window while the service is tracking it and its reset has not passed. A window that reset, or that has seen no use, may simply not be reported. Agent HUD keeps the last reading and the time it was observed rather than showing a zero.

Does the weekly limit cover every model?

There is a weekly window across all models, and the heavier family also has one of its own. Both can be close to full at once, and either can be the one that stops you.

Is the percentage used or remaining?

Used. A window at 90% has 10% left.

Does an API key have these limits?

No. An API-key login or a third-party gateway is billed another way and has no plan window to report, so Agent HUD shows no quota for it and names the reason beside the account.

Claude Code rate limits, explained

A Claude Code subscription is metered on more than one window at once, and the one that stops you is whichever fills first.

The windows

The 5-hour session limit. A short window that carries most day-to-day work.
The 7-day weekly limit. Spans all models and refills on its own schedule.
A weekly window per model family. The heavier family has its own allowance, which is why a day of routine edits and a day of hard problems do not cost the same.

A window exists only while it is live

Claude Code reports a window while the service is tracking it and its reset has not passed. So a window that has just reset, or that you have not touched, may not be reported at all — which is not the same as it being at zero.

Agent HUD shows a window with no reading as a dash rather than a zero, and it will not invent a percentage from token counts.

Percentages are what you have used

Every percentage — in Claude Code and in Agent HUD — is the share consumed. A window at 90% has 10% of its allowance left.

Each window carries its own reset time, so two windows at the same percentage can be very different situations.

What spends them fastest

The heavier model family, which draws on its own weekly window as well as the shared ones.
Long sessions without a break, which keep one 5-hour window busy from start to finish.
Work you could have given to another agent, whose allowance is entirely separate.

Seeing them without asking

Claude Code hands its status line the current limits, so a line of your own can print the session and weekly percentages and their resets. That covers one terminal.

Agent HUD puts the same windows around the notch for every agent at once, warns at 70% used and again at 90%, and notifies once when a window is forecast to run out before its reset — while there is still time to change what you are doing.
