Agent HUD vs Vibe Island: Mac Agent Monitor Comparison
Both apps bring coding-agent status, supported approvals and quota readings to the Mac notch. Agent HUD offers free local monitoring, a four-edge Dynamic Dock and optional mobile viewing. Vibe Island offers terminal and editor navigation, phone alerts through Bark and a one-time Mac license.
Choose around your actual workflow
Vibe Island documents several agents in one panel, including Claude Code and Codex, with approval and question workflows and a way back to the relevant terminal or editor. Check its integration for the client you use.
Agent HUD combines local quotas, session statistics and supported requests on the Mac. Consider it when you want to inspect recorded usage, choose a different display edge, or view your Macs on iPhone and Apple Watch.
Capabilities side by side
| Need | Agent HUD | Vibe Island |
|---|---|---|
| Mac activity and requests | Status, supported approvals and questions, with turn-completion reminders on the HUD. | Agent status, supported approvals and questions, plus terminal or editor navigation. |
| Codex quota | Reported account windows and reset times, shared by Desktop and CLI when they use the same account. | Desktop and CLI monitoring; rolling and weekly usage percentages with reset countdowns. |
| External displays | Each display keeps its mode and placement; Dynamic Dock can sit on any of four edges. | A floating bar at the top centre on external displays or Macs without a notch. |
| Recorded token usage | Five non-overlapping token kinds, model and session totals, and per-turn/per-call detail where logs provide it. | Official pages describe session and tool activity; these sources do not specify equivalent token breakdowns. |
| iPhone and Watch | Apps for quotas, sessions, statistics and widgets; Watch receives data from its paired iPhone. | Bark forwards alerts to iPhone, with normal iOS notification mirroring to Watch. |
| Mobile connection | Free Local Network viewing (Beta) on the same network; paid Remote for viewing away from that network. | Phone alerts signal waiting work; approval and answers happen on the Mac. |
| Purchase model | Local Mac features are free; Apache-2.0 Open core. Remote access is paid; mobile apps are free. | A one-time Mac license with one year of updates; the acquired version remains usable after that period. |

Phone alerts and mobile viewing answer different needs
Vibe Island's Bark integration, available since 1.0.44, forwards completion, approval, question and warning alerts. Its notification guide covers setup and delivery conditions.
Agent HUD's standard mobile workflow lets you inspect the data your Mac shares. Local Network viewing is Beta and needs both devices on the same network; Remote covers access away from it. This comparison covers viewing. Experimental options have separate setup and limitations in the Remote Sessions guide.

Sources and comparison limits
Agent HUD publishes this comparison using official sources checked on 12 October 2026, including Vibe Island's 1.0.53 changelog dated 10 October. It is a capability comparison, not a performance benchmark; an unspecified feature is not treated as absent.
Try your own client and account before choosing. Available quotas and recorded details depend on the client and its data. Token totals do not establish remaining plan quota; check each app's current integrations and license terms.

Common questions
- Does Vibe Island support Codex usage, or only Claude Code?
- Its official Codex page documents both Desktop and CLI monitoring, including rolling and weekly quota readings with reset countdowns. Verify the integration for your current client version.
- Does Vibe Island work with iPhone and Apple Watch?
- Yes, through Bark alerts and normal iOS Watch notification mirroring. Its guide says these alerts cannot approve requests or answer questions from the phone.
- Are Agent HUD's Mac and mobile apps free?
- Local Mac monitoring and the mobile apps are free. Same-network viewing is available through Local Network (Beta); viewing away from that network requires paid Agent HUD Remote access.
- Can both apps work on an external display?
- Yes. Vibe Island documents a top-centre floating bar. Agent HUD keeps separate display settings and offers Dynamic Dock on the top, right, bottom or left edge.
