Mac Notch App for Claude Code and Codex

Agent HUD turns your MacBook notch into a Dynamic Island for AI coding agents. See Claude Code and Codex activity, quota and reset times, answer supported requests, and open session statistics. Local Mac features are free.

Set up the notch and hover panel

  • Launch Agent HUD on the same Mac as your coding tools, sign in to those tools normally, and run a session so there are local records to read.
  • In Settings, choose the display you want and select notch mode. A notched MacBook uses its physical notch; a screen without one can use a bar at the top centre or Dynamic Dock.
  • Under Agents, choose the quota windows to watch and keep Live status on for clients whose running turns and completions you want to see.
  • Hover over the HUD to open account usage, reset countdowns and live sessions. Choose a session to open its statistics; use Option-hover if you want to reduce accidental opening.

Where to check usage first

Claude Code has /usage for subscription usage and resets. Codex has its own usage dashboard. These are useful when you want to check one account in its own interface.

Agent HUD keeps supported agents together on screen while you work in another app. A glow shows quota levels; hover over the notch or dock to open the usage panel.

Claude Code commands

What the notch shows

SignalWhat you can see or do
Agent activityFollow running sessions where the client provides live status; open a session from the panel.
Quota and resetsSee supported account windows, reset times and recent burn-rate forecasts. Missing quota stays unavailable.
Turn remindersSee when a recorded turn ends, when quota is critical and when a reset is confirmed. A finished turn does not certify that the task passed.
Permission requestsDeny or allow a supported request on Mac, with the command, file or tool input visible before answering.
Session statisticsInspect tokens, model calls and per-turn details where recorded. API-price costs are estimates, separate from your subscription bill.

Claude Code and Codex approvals

Keep Client hooks enabled in Agent HUD. Claude Code permission requests and questions can be answered on the HUD; a plan approval sends you back to Claude Code's own choices.

For Codex Desktop or CLI, review and trust Agent HUD's hook in Codex's hook settings (/hooks in the CLI). Codex requests offer deny and allow-once; unanswered requests return to the client's own permission flow.

Dynamic Dock without a notch

External monitors and Macs without a notch default to Dynamic Dock: agent logos with a glow behind them. It can sit along the top, right, bottom or left edge, so you can keep it near the part of the screen you use.

Drag a visible HUD to an edge to move it. Dragging the notch changes that display to Dynamic Dock. With logos hidden, hold Command to reveal the drag area; display settings can reset the position or switch back to notch mode.

Each display remembers its own mode, position, logo appearance and glow. Notch mode stays at the physical notch, or at the top centre of a screen without one.

Opening the panel without getting in the way

The panel opens inward from the parked edge. You can require Option while hovering, and optionally open immediately when the pointer reaches the top edge above the HUD. Side and bottom placements keep the hover delay.

Long usage panels scroll above fixed settings and statistics controls. Alerts appear once on the pointer's display; choosing a session opens its statistics on Mac.

Mac features and viewing on other devices

Local activity, quotas, reminders, approvals and statistics are free on macOS 14 or later. Available readings depend on the client and account; an API-key account may provide token usage without subscription quota.

Agent HUD Remote adds viewing on the free iPhone and Apple Watch apps. Subscribe in the iPhone app and use the same Apple Account in system settings. Answering requests on this page is a Mac feature.

Common questions

What does a moving logo mean compared with the glow?
A logo can indicate the agent is working or waiting for approval when its client supports live status. The glow represents quota or balance state. Neither signal proves that the agent’s output passed your checks.
Do I need a MacBook with a notch?
No. Dynamic Dock works on Macs and external monitors without a notch, along any of the four screen edges. You can choose either display mode in Settings.
Can I keep Claude Code and Codex visible together?
Yes. Enabled account windows appear together in the panel, and supported live sessions appear in its session list. Shared artwork occupies one place in Dynamic Dock.
Does the Mac notch app need a subscription?
Local monitoring, reminders, approvals and statistics are free. Agent HUD Remote is the paid feature for viewing Mac data on your other devices.
Can I approve every agent's requests?
No. Approval support varies by client. Claude Code and Codex are supported with their client hooks enabled; the supported-client pages list the capabilities and setup for each tool.
